How to Use Ice Cube Trays like a Boss

There are many items that we may use around the kitchen on a daily basis. In some households, ice cube trays are used for preparing ice and we may have several of them going in the freezer at any given time.

In other households, however, ice cube trays are hard to come by because there is an automatic ice maker in the freezer. It doesn’t matter which type of household you live in, after reading this post, you will never be without an ice cube tray again! As a matter of fact, there are so many handy ways to use ice cube trays that you may not have enough left over for freezing water!

1. Wine

1

Putting ice in your wine has now become en vogue but unfortunately, it can water down the taste of the wine significantly. One way for you to use ice cube trays is to freeze wine in advance. You can then chill your glass of wine without altering the flavor.

2. Coffee

2

Similar to the way that you can chill wine with wine ice cubes, you can also chill coffee with coffee ice cubes! Iced coffee is an awesome treat but using regular ice tends to water it down if you don’t drink it fast enough. Coffee ice cubes will always keep your drink tasting great.

3. Fruit

3

When fruit is reaching the expiration date, don’t throw it away, preserve it inside of ice. Not only does it save money by saving the fruit, the ice cubes are interesting, fun and can add some flavor to your water.

4. Citrus

4

Although we already discussed freezing fruit in ice cube trays, some types of fruit tend to be too large for that purpose. When you have a lemon or two that you want to preserve in ice, simply slice them and freeze them in a muffin tin.

5. Tomato Sauce

5

It doesn’t matter if you make your own tomato sauce or if you have a little bit of sauce left over from last night’s spaghetti, freezing it in an ice cube tray is a great idea. Not only does it last for a long time, these small cubes will heat up quickly on the stove.

6. Greens

6

Greens tend to wilt quickly, especially when they are fresh. To save greens when they are near the turning point, chop them up and freeze them in ice cube trays. You can also do this to make nutritional green smoothies that are easy to chill!

7. Jell-O Shots

7

What’s a party without Jell-O shots? But an impromptu party could leave you without any Jell-O shots to give. If you make them up in advance and freeze them, you will always be ready for the party.

8. Cheesecake Bites

8

If you want a taste of cheesecake but don’t want to have a big slice, these dainty cheesecake bites that are frozen in ice cube trays are just what you need. You can find the recipe here.

9. Cookie Dough

9

Many recipes call for chilling cookie dough before you use it. It is easy to chill when you separate it into smaller batches in an ice cube tray. When it comes time to bake the cookies, you only use what you need and save the rest for later.

10. Herbs

10

Herbs tend to go bad quickly, especially when you purchase them fresh. Rather than throw them out, put them into individual ice cube trays and fill the squares with some olive oil. When it comes time to add some flavor to any dish, drop one of these ice cubes in the pan and you are ready to go!

11. Peanut Butter Cups

11

There is no doubt that peanut butter cups are a favorite treat of many people. You can make a miniature variety of peanut butter cups that are just the right size for snacking by using an ice cube tray. Check out the recipe here.

12. Broth

12

It is easy to make your own homemade broth and it is a much healthier option than buying it at the store. It doesn’t matter if you make chicken, vegetable or beef broth, make sure that you have some on hand by freezing a batch in ice cube trays and keeping the “ice cubes” in large freezer bags.
