Make homemade dough, or use store-bought, for a new spin on pizza night.

Surprise your family or dinner guests with this fun twist on the traditional pizza pie. If you’re in a pinch and don’t have time to make homemade dough, fret not. This recipe is just as good using store-bought bread dough.

Pepperoni Bread
Serves: 6
Prep Time: 1 1/2 hours (if making homemade dough)
15 minutes if using store-bought dough
Cook Time: 20-25 minutes

Homemade Dough Ingredients
1500 mL (6 cups) flour
500 mL (2 cups) warm water
25 mL (5 tsp) yeast
90 mL (6 tbsp) olive oil
20 mL (4 tsp) salt
250 mL (1 cup) pizza sauce
375mL (1 1/2 cups) shredded mozzarella cheese
250 mL (1 cup) pepperoni slices
Salt
Dipping sauces (optional)

Homemade Dough Instructions

In small bowl, add yeast to warm water and allow to sit for about 5 minutes

In a large bowl, add 750mL (3 cups) of flour and salt
Mix together and make a hole in the middle of the flour mountain (think volcano)

Add yeast to the well
Mix everything together using your hands or the dough hook attachment on your mixer

Add olive oil and remaining flour, one cup at a time, to the dough
Once everything has been mixed in, knead the dough until no longer sticky, about 5 minutes

Put dough into a well-oiled bowl and cover with a damp cloth
Place dough in a warm corner in your kitchen. Allow dough to double in size, which should take 45-60 minutes

Pepperoni Bread Assembly Instructions

Preheat oven to 180 C (350 F)
Line a large cookie sheet or jelly roll pan with foil or parchment paper
On a lightly floured surface, roll dough out into a long rectangle
Sprinkle the pizza dough with mozzarella cheese and layer pepperoni on top of cheese

Beginning with the long side of the dough in front of you, tightly roll the log to the opposite edge

Pinch seam and ends shut to avoid cheese oozing out
Place seam on the bottom (touching the cookie sheet)
Bake pepperoni bread for 20-25 minutes

Remove from oven and allow to cool for at least 15 minutes before slicing

Slice with a serrated knife and serve with a delicious dipping sauce
Tip: Serve the pepperoni bread slices with a delicious warm marinara sauce or some melted butter with a dash of garlic salt and Parmesan cheese for a delicious snack or appetizer.
